Whispering Smith — H. B. Warner Silent Film Lantern Slide Print

H. B. Warner takes the title role of a railroad detective called in to restore order along a troubled Western line in the 1926 silent feature Whispering Smith.

Released by Producers Distributing Corp. on March 28, 1926, Whispering Smith was directed by George Melford for Metropolitan Pictures Corp. The cast included H. B. Warner, Lillian Rich, John Bowers, Lilyan Tashman and Eugene Pallette. The seven-reel silent Western was adapted from Frank Hamilton Spearman’s 1906 novel and photographed by Charles G. Clarke, with Joseph La Shelle as second cinematographer.

Railroad foreman Murray Sinclair is dismissed by division superintendent George McCloud after being caught looting train wrecks. Sinclair and his men retaliate against the railroad, prompting the arrival of the celebrated detective Whispering Smith. The pursuit becomes personal when Smith falls in love with Sinclair’s estranged wife, Marion, while Dicksie Dunning risks a dangerous ride through a storm to warn McCloud of an impending attack.

This reproduction is prepared from a restored, high-resolution scan of an original theater advertising slide. The artwork has been carefully cleaned and color-balanced while retaining the hand-colored appearance, printed texture, softened colors and period character of the source. It is centered within a warm cream border for a presentation that complements the aged artwork.
